Second Special Session Called in Texas (feat. SB5 AGAIN) and what you can do!
Okay, as many of you probably know by now, Gov. Perry has called a second special session featuring, you guessed it, SB5, a harmful and restrictive abortion bill
that has been making national headlines
and was filibustered from the first special session early this morning. Said filibuster lasted for 13 hours and had some amazing (good and bad amazing) moments that are all over the internet so I can’t pick the best links I’m sorry please Google it.
Now, for those of you who live in Texas but can’t come to the capitol next week as things unfold, you have an amazingly crucial role to play before the next session begins on July 1st: Call your senator. If you don’t feel like looking up their info through this link. I’ll do it for you, just send me an ask with your city/county/zip. All you have to do is call and say: “My name is ____, I’m from _____ and I do not support further abortion restrictions.” Call after 5 and leave a voicemail if you’d rather. Call. Have your family call. Have your friends call. This is so important. Tricky Ricky needs to know he can’t slide this thing through, and the senators and other reps need to know that not everyone in their district is anti-choice. Those of us with super conservative Senators who might be on the fence or totally for passing the bills need to hear it even more than the ones who are on our side.
We cannot let SB5 pass under any circumstances.
Our voice is important. These senators are scared. Let them know that Texas cares about women, and so should they.
Remember: “Not the church, not the state, women must decide their fate!”
(and, if you don’t live in Texas, please reblog and pass it along to those you know who do.
